Jazz for All Souls | SFJAZZ Collective plays Miles Davis & Antônio Carlos Jobim

SFJAZZ Collective is one of the most interesting and acclaimed groups on the jazz scene. The collective involves eight outstanding performers and composers. Each year, eight new works and eight new arrangements of compositions by notable composers are included in the octet’s repertoire. They have collaborated, among others, with Herbie Hancock, Thelonious Monk, Wayne Shorter, Stevie Wonder and Chick Corea. In the National Forum of Music, SFJAZZ Collective will present new arrangements of the works of jazz innovator Miles Davis and master of bossa nova Antônio Carlos Jobim, a tribute to those artists before the upcoming All Souls Day.

Chopin’s Teacher

28 October, Sunday, 6:00 pm, NFM, Main Hall

This evening at the NFM, we will hear works by Polish composers: the father of Polish opera Stanisław Moniuszko, Ignacy Feliks Dobrzyński and Chopin’s teacher – Józef Elsner. Soloists and musicians of Wrocław Baroque Orchestra and the NFM Choir will perform under the baton Jarosław Thiel. The concert will feature The Fairy Tale overture by Stanisław Moniuszko, whose huge emotional charge is a wonderful proof of the composer’s artistry. The programme also includes a work of Ignacy Feliks Dobrzyński, Symphony No. 2 in C minor, Op. 15 ‘Characteristic’, based on the rhythms of Polish national dances such as mazurka or krakowiak. In the concert finale, the monumental Solemn Mass in C major op. 51 ‘Coronation’ written specially for the coronation ceremony of Tsar Nicholas I as King of Poland.

You can buy tickets (1) in the NFM Box Office, Monday through Friday 11.00 am – 6.00 pm (break 3:00 pm-3:30 pm) and on Saturdays 3:00 pm – 20:30 pm; (2) by bank transfer (transfer details can be found here) (3) online with PayU – in the latter case request a payment link.

Tickets paid by bank transfer will be printed and left in the Box Office for your collection at the time of your convenience. Tickets bought online will be sent to the e-mail address you quoted while booking online.
